Have you ever wanted to
be someone else? Invent your own character and enter the world of Saitou
Hajime and the Shinsengumi Kagetaià
Q. What is the Shinsengumi Kagetai?
A. A secret organization run by Saitou.
The group has no ties to the Shinsengumi.
Most members are assassin/spy types. Some were seeking to join the
Shinsengumi, but were turned away. Seeing the potential within, Saitou
took them as his personal Shadow Squad, using them for missions unsuitable
to a normal soldier.
Q. What do you doà exactly?
A. We create fiction involving these
characters and their exploits as members of the Kagetai. The stories can
take place during the Bakamatsu or during Meiji: it's up to you. Including
Saitou in your fiction isn't a requirement, although many enjoy doing so.
Fics can be solo or group projects. Some of us provide artwork of our characters
and their exploits. We get into our characters heads and have a little
fun while weÆre at it.
The Shinsengumi Kagetai (Shadow Squad) came
about thanks to the imaginations and creativity of the members of the Miburo
Madness Mailing List. We wanted to start a fan club for Saitou and the
idea was expanded upon until it evolved into what you see here. What started
out as a disorganized, partially formulated idea has grown into an elite
group of RPGers with concrete ideas of what they are and are not looking
for. Because of this inevitable mutation, new rules have come into effect.

>>JOINING: THE RULES <<
1. Your character must comply with Kagetai
and Rurouni Kenshin history.
2. You must provide all the requested information
before Milinar and I will review your character.
3. Your character must be semi-realistic. By this
I mean your character shouldnÆt have fought and defeated every tough-guy
from Rurouni Kenshin, be able to fly, able to run fast than a speeding
bullet, etc. Be reasonable. Aim for a character youÆll be able to write
fiction about. If he/she is superman, there isnÆt much for him/her to do
other than get a day job as a reporter and spend the rest of his/her life
rushing from phone booth to phone booth.
4. Keep in mind you're creating this character
for use! We donÆt want characters collecting dust, do we? There
will be a æshelf-lifeÆ for characters. To keep your character from
being set aside you could draw pictures of them, write solo fiction, help
out with a group fic, ask another member to include your character in one
of their stories, etc.
5. You must be a member of either the Kagetai
Discussion List, or the Kagetai Summary List.
This keeps you up to date on everything taking place in Kagetai land. If
you have limited internet time and arenÆt interested in sifting through
lengthy Kagetai discussion, you may join the Summary List. On the Summary
List you will be sent messages periodically letting you know of new profiles
or profile changes, additions to the timeline, and general Kagetai updates.
YouÆll also be given the option to have any new fiction or artwork sent
to you. If you want, you can check out the forum,
where the gang gabs ^_^
The Kagetai Timeline:
This lists many important dates in Rurouni Kenshin history, actual Japanese
history and the lives of the members of the Kagetai. Before making a character
you should check out the timeline to make sure your concept will work with
the previously established history of the Kagetai.

Name
Date of Birth
Height, Weight, Appearance
Background Info (this should, obviously, include
how you came to join the Kagetai)
Personality
Likes, Dislikes
Rivals
Current Info (where you live now, what you're doing
now, etc.)
Before you create a profile you may want
to join the Kagetai Discussion List. This will give you a chance to meet
the other members, whom youÆll be hearing a lot from if you join. Feel
free to ask for advice, suggestions, or help with your profile. You may
also need questions regarding Japanese history answered. Hopefully, weÆll
be able to help you out.
